Thinking of the upcoming holidays has really made me want to create some fun and tasty treats. These hot chocolate bombs are SO much fun to create. This time, I decided to use white chocolate for the chocolate domes. Still just as adorable and delicious as the milk chocolate bomb!
Materials needed:
~ White chocolate chips
~ Crushed peppermint candy
~ 1/2 hot chocolate mix of your choice
~ Semi-sphere silicone mold
~ 1 1/2 cup of warm milk
~ Gel food coloring - red and green
~ Silicone leaf mold
When melting the chocolate, make sure to not overheat it. I simply microwave the chocolate in 30 second intervals and mix until I get the desired consistency.
Step 1
Get your silicone mold ready for the chocolate! While you are working on getting the chocolate inside, place it on top of a baking sheet for easy transfer to the fridge.
Step 2
Now, I had these extra baking chips in my pantry, so this is what I ended up using. Feel free to use whatever chocolate you enjoy the most. Melt the chocolate. Click HERE to learn how to melt chocolate. There are a couple of ways to do so. I prefer the microwave since it's a quick and easy way to heat chocolate, but please do whatever you feel most comfortable with! Now, for this design I did use red and green food coloring for decoration. Simply use a little bit of gel food coloring to mix the desired chocolate color.
Step 3
Next, using a spoon, place the melted chocolate into the silicone mold. Use the back of the spoon to smooth the chocolate up the sides of the dome. You can do a thin second layer to strengthen the domes. Place in refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. If you find your hands are a little too warm and melting the chocolate when you touch it, place it back into the fridge.
Step 4
Now, you can get all your fillings ready for the chocolate bomb. I had some hot cocoa packs in my pantry, so I decided to use them! Crush the peppermint candy fine enough that it will melt easily in the mix. Add some marshmallows for more sweetness!
Step 5
Take a warm plate and put the chocolate mold on it to melt and make the edges less rugged. This way, the chocolate bomb will look seamless once put together. Carefully fill your mold with the hot chocolate, crushed peppermint, and marshmallows.
Step 6
Using the warm plate again, heat the top dome edge and place on top of the filled dome. Smooth the seam with a warm spoon if you want a seamless look.
Step 7
Now, you can decorate the outside of the bomb. I added white chocolate (that I dyed red with food coloring) and crushed peppermint. I also added white chocolate that I dyed green and put it into a leaf silicone mold. Then placed that into the fridge for a few minutes for decoration.
Step 8
Warm the milk. Place your chocolate bomb in a mug and pour the warm milk on top. Mix with a spoon... or a candy cane! Enjoy your delicious hot chocolate.
