Ugly Christmas sweater parties have been a tradition for a while now. What better way to celebrate the holidays than to create your own ugly sweater design - on a cookie? This holiday will be different than past holidays, but you can always gift loved ones with baked goods!
Materials needed:
~ Baked sugar cookies - You can get a similar cookie cutter HERE.
~ Royal Icing
~ Gel food coloring
~ red, green
~ Rainbow sprinkles - You can get some HERE.
~ Scribe
~ Piping bags
The royal icing consistencies should be as follows:
*Red royal icing - Medium consistency.
*White royal icing - Medium to stiff consistency.
*Green royal icing - Medium consistency
For this design, you do not need to use any specific type of tip. I simply the desired hole size at the tip of the piping bag. If you get any bubbles while piping, simply use your scribe or toothpick and smooth it out.
Step 1
Make sure your baked cookie is completely cooled before adding any royal icing. Once completely cooled, we will use the wet on wet royal icing technique. On the main body of the sweater, pipe white icing. Quickly after, take your red royal icing and layer on red icing in horizontal lines. You will see the red icing settle into the white icing.
Step 2
Next, take your scribe, or toothpick. Starting right at the bottom middle of the sweater, drag your scribe up through the icing to get this marbling effect. On the left and right of the marbling you created, go to the top of the sweater and drag downwards. This will give you the alternating lines on the sweater. Continue to do the rest of the pattern - up and down.
Step 3
Use the red royal icing and fill in the sleeve areas. Wait about 5 minutes or so and then add little white dots for poms!
Step 4
Once the red icing is hardened, take the green icing and make some line swirls around the arms. Wait a minute or two before adding in the rainbow sprinkles to resemble Christmas lights. Add a cute little mistletoe - or whatever fun design you want - to the middle of the sweater. You can add even more designs to make this adorable, ugly sweater!
