Elegant Leaf Cookie

Fall is here and the leaves are turning. What better way to celebrate fall than to bake some delicious treats? This elegant leaf cookie looks difficult, but it is SO easy! Learn how to make this simple cookie below.

Materials needed:

~ Baked leaf shaped sugar cookies

~ Royal Icing

~ Brown gel food coloring

~ Edible gold luster dust

~ Lemon extract

~ Food safe paint brush

~ Scribe

~ Round piping tip

~ Piping bags

~ Piping coupler

For this simple design, you only need one color - brown. Begin with mixing a small amount of brown flood consistency royal icing. You'll also want to mix some white icing into a toothpaste like consistency - this will be for the filigree designs. The amount really depends on how many cookies you're decorating but you can always mix more! Put the mixed royal icing into separate piping bags with couplers and make sure to use round piping tips.

Step 1

After baking your sugar cookie, make sure the cookie is completely cooled before icing.

Step 2

Using the brown flood consistency royal icing, flood the entire cookie. Use the scribe to spread the icing evenly. Make sure the icing is hardened before moving onto the next step.

Step 3

Next, use the white icing to create filigree designs. Let dry completely.

Step 4

Mix a small amount of edible gold luster dust with a small amount of lemon extract. Using the food safe paint brush, brush the gold onto the white filigree designs. Let dry.

Step 5

There you have it! A simple elegantly designed leaf cookie. Perfect for gifts and treats.
