Cable Knit Sweater Cookie Tutorial

Updated: Dec 13, 2020

December has already brought some frosty mornings. It makes me want to cuddle up with my soft plush throws, drink some hot chocolate, throw on a warm sweater, and watch my favorite shows. The sweaters I love to wear once it starts getting chilly out, are cable knit sweaters. They are so warm, soft, and cozy... perfect for December. They also inspired me to make this decorated cookie. All the intricate details look intimidating, but if you take it one step at a time, it's simpler than you think!

Materials needed:

~ Baked sugar cookies - You can get a similar cookie cutter HERE.

~ Royal Icing

~ Scribe

~ Piping bags

The royal icing consistencies should be as follows:

*White royal icing - medium consistency

For this design, you do not need to use any specific type of tip. I simply the desired hole size at the tip of the piping bag. If you get any bubbles while piping, simply use your scribe or toothpick and smooth it out.

Step 1

Make sure your baked cookie is completely cooled before adding any royal icing. You'll want to start flooding the body of the sweater. After 5 minutes, flood the arms. Let harden.

Step 2

Start right in the middle of the cookie. This way, your pattern will be symmetrical. Pipe a braid like design. You can do this by placing dots offset of one another. Another way to do this is to pipe an upside down raindrop offset from one another. Create your own pattern by adding in lines, dots, more braids, and anything you can think of!

Step 3

The longest part to this design is having the patience to create the pattern. Make sure your design completely dries before serving or packing.
