Blueberry Pie Cookie Tutorial

The holidays are near and although celebrating with loved ones may not happen this year, you can still send a gift of love through treats! Pies are delicious and almost the best part of holidays - besides being with family. Let's make a delicious sugar cookie that is decorated like a blueberry pie!

Materials needed:

~ Baked sugar cookies

~ Royal Icing

~ Gel food coloring

~ royal blue, brown

~ Scribe

~ Round and leaf piping tip

~ Piping bags

~ Piping coupler

For this design, I left the royal icing consistency as stiff. You'll need to mix two colors for this design. Use blue and brown gel food coloring to mix your icing. I always start out with a small amount depending on how many cookies I want to decorate. You can always mix more!

Step 1

Make sure your baked cookie is completely cooled before adding any royal icing.

Step 2

Using a round tip, apply different amount of pressure when piping the "blueberries." I also stacked some on top of others just to give it more texture. Leave some space around the edge of the cookie for the pie crust. Let completely dry.

Step 3

Next, using a round tip, pipe a brown circular braid onto the blueberries. To do this, simply pipe a short line angled to the left, and then another short line angled to the right and slightly lower and above the bottom of the left line. If you make any mistakes, take your scribe and clean up the area.

Step 4

I mixed a little more brown into my brown icing for a deeper and richer color. To make the pie crust, I simply piped in a circular up and down motion. Take the leaf tip and pipe a couple of leaves onto the braided ring. Let dry until hardened before serving.

Now, just make a couple more of these to share!
