Baby Shower Cookies - Boy - Bowtie Elephant

What is cuter than a mini elephant with a bowtie? This is the perfect baby shower cookie to make - easy to put together and adorable. Follow my steps on how to make this simple cookie and share the cuteness at a baby shower!

Materials You'll Need:

~ Baked mini elephant sugar cookies (I couldn't find the original cookie cutter I have, but I suggest this one from Amazon!)

~ Royal Icing

~ Gel Food Coloring

~ Grey and Navy

~ Piping Bags

~ Food Safe Edible Marker (Black - fine tip)

~ Scribe tool or toothpick

I suggest mixing all your royal icing with medium consistency beforehand.

Step 1

Starting off with your sugar cookie dough, use your elephant cookie cutter and cut out as many elephants as you will need. I usually like to chill the cut dough for about 30 minutes before putting it into the 350 degree oven. I find that it helps to prevent the spreading of the dough during the baking process. 10 minutes is just about the perfect amount of time needed to bake the cookies. Or, you can wait until the cookie is about a golden color before taking it out of the oven. Let the cookie cool before placing any icing onto the cookie.

Step 2

Once your cookies are cooled, use the grey medium consistency royal icing and flood the entire cookie. You can either cut an opening in the piping bag, or use a size 1 or 2 round tip.

Step 3

Next, you'll want to wait until the cookie is somewhat dry - or completely dry. Pipe on the large ear onto the cookie. For this particular cookie cutter, you can see where the ear is supposed to go, for others you may not have this. Simply estimate towards the middle of the mini elephant for placement of the ear.

Step 4

For the navy blue medium consistency icing, you'll want to cut a very small opening in your piping bag - or use a size 0 or 1 round tip. Pipe two dots near each other on a slant. Using your scribe, connect the dots. Towards the outside of the bow, you'll want to make a more boxy shape so that the end result looks like a mini tie.

Step 5

Now, you can add the final details! Use the same grey, and add some lines onto the nose for some wrinkles. Also add a little line to the end of the elephant for the tail. Using the edible fine tip black marker, add a smiling eye, and some hair for the tail. Easy and adorable, right?! Now, you just have to let all the icing dry completely before packaging or setting it out for a treat!
