Santa's better half, Mrs. Claus, is the bringer of joy! As we are approaching Christmastime, I'm sure Mrs. Claus is keeping the elves and Santa busy with preparing toys for all the good boys and girls. What better way to celebrate the holidays than to make a joyful cookie version of Mrs. Claus?

Materials needed:

~ Baked sugar cookies - I used a wreath cookie cutter to make this design. You can get the pack I have HERE.

~ Royal Icing

~ Gel food coloring

~ brown, red

~ Round piping tips

~ Edible thin tip marker - You can get it HERE.

~ Scribe

~ Piping bags

~ Piping coupler

~ Lemon extract

~ Food safe paint brush

The royal icing consistencies should be as follows:

*Red royal icing - Medium consistency. You won't need as much of red.

*White royal icing - Medium consistency and medium to stiff consistency

*Brown royal icing - This is to make the skin color, to make a deeper complexion simply add more gel food coloring. Make this royal icing medium consistency.

Step 1

Make sure your baked cookie is completely cooled before adding any royal icing.

Step 2

To start, pipe a red arched line across the top of the cookie. This will be for a headband.

Step 3

Next, using a round tip, pipe a circle right in the middle of the cookie using the light brown icing. Let sit for about 5 minutes. At this point, pipe the middle of the bow onto the headband. Next, pipe the neck and shoulder area onto the cookie. Now, you can go back to the headband and add both ends to the bow.

Step 4

Once you allow the royal icing to sit again for about 5 minutes, flood the rest of the cookie with white.

Step 5

Add a small little round of icing for a nose.

Step 6

Once the base white hair is completely hardened, use the medium to stiff white icing to make little swirls. This will add texture to the hair. Don't forget the eyebrows!

Step 7

Finally, you can add the face details. Use the edible marker to draw on eye smiles. Take the lemon extract and a little bit of food coloring to paint some blush onto the cheeks. Next, add a pouty lip with the red icing.

Step 8

For a little extra flair, I added some red sprinkles to the bow. To do this, I painted the middle of the bow with a thin layer of red royal icing. I then dipped the top of the cookie into a small bowl of sprinkles!
